Teacher Philosophy Statement

In studying Physical Education and Health - I have developed my own teacher philosophy statement. With my philosophy - I have discovered that there are a significant number of benefits of physical activity. They are health and cognitive related benefits. Providing students with physical activities reduces the risk of premature mortality and coronary heart disease - hypertension - colon cancer and diabetes. Physical activity also improves mental health and is important for the health of muscles - bones and joints.

As a teacher - I attempt to implement activities that will hold the students' interest while benefiting them physically and mentally. I will introduce students to the activities that will enable them to participate in the lifetime activity that promotes - supports- and maintains wellness.

Moreover - I intend to strengthen the students' ability to focus on learning - academic achievement and preparation for their future. Empower students to choose a lifetime of physical activities that they enjoy and have confidence in.

According to my teacher philosophy statement I will present the material that will empower students to make informed decisions about issues that impact their present health - the health of their families and friends - and the health of society at large.

Enhancing the students' ability to become cautious and competent consumers is vital to their long term health. Also - it is important to assist students to recognize a well being - understand - and address immediate or chronic health problems in order to prevent long term health problems.

I will make students feel comfortable in my class - so they would have a positive experience with physical education and health classes. I will make sure that the class is well organized and well behaved - so that the students have a maximum concentration on the task. Hopefully - by doing this - students will want to participate more in class - and may be even more active outside of the class. For example - if a student feels secure in his/her abilities to perform an activity he/she may join a team where they can further enhance their abilities.

If I have a student that has special needs I will utilize all resources available to make sure that those students will be involved in the activities, and interact with the other students. By doing this - the special need students will not feel out of place - and it will give the other students a chance to interact with those that have different abilities.

In addition to be an educator, I would like to coach soccer. This will provide students the opportunity to be physically active outside of the school. Through coaching I will not only teach children how to play soccer - but also how to become honest and responsible citizen. Hopefully my program will show others that the activities that children do are enhancing them to be a life long active and responsible citizens.

I will continue to learn new activities and new benefits of physical activity and health. I will look for new ways to promote physical activities and health to my students and to the community. I will do this by going to professional conferences and becoming a member to different organizations such as the NJAHPERD. This will introduce me to the new activities and to the new people in my field - which will give me an opportunity to be more educated and update my teacher philosophy statement.
