Health Related Fitness

This is very simplified lesson about health related fitness. It simply presents 5 fitness components and later assesses them. Initially, my students receive assessment worksheet where they try their best to recognize correct components.

Then, I go over five parts and present each definition.

Here are the five components and their definitions:

  • Strength - is the ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Endurance - is the ability to do exercise for a long time.
  • Flexibility - is the ability to move joints through full range of motion.
  • Cardio Endurance - is the ability of your heart to work for a long time.
  • Body Composition - is used to describe the percentage of muscle in the human body.

After, I make sure that all my students understand each meaning, I then go into example of exercises for each component. If you look inside my Activinspire lesson you will see each picture examples but I will also post them here as well. Here is the picture.

An example of strength in the above picture is a man lifting a heavy object. Other examples: carrying a sofa, carrying TV set, etc. Endurance and cardio endurance are both very similar components. Their examples are: swimming, riding a bicycle, marathon running, playing soccer, etc. Flexibility can be developed in the following activities: yoga, dancing, karate, etc. Body composition is a result of development of strength, endurance, flexibility, and cardio endurance. Any type of physical activity will impact the percentage of body fat or muscle in the human body.
