Download female reproductive system lesson

Lets pay attention! Female reproductive system lesson is being taught. So, here I go. I start with vocabulary words:

  • Vagina – is a muscular passageway that extends from the uterus to the outside of the body.
  • Ovaries - are the female sex glands that produce ova and hormones.
  • Ovulation - is the process of releasing one mature ovum each month.
  • Fallopian tubes - are tubes that draw the ovum in.
  • Zygote - is the union of the sperm and the ovum.
  • Uterus - is a muscular organ about the size of a fist.

Be sure that the students understand all definitions. When they are move on to the next section.

Functions of the Reproductive System:

  • Process of reproduction (pregnancy)
  • Production of ova (egg cell)
  • Production of hormones (estrogen)

On page 5 of the presentation show the picture of reproductive system. Present all the internal and external organs and then have your students label them on page 6. Some students might be shy, so be careful.

Discuss the menstrual cycle. Menstruation is the process of shedding the lining of the uterus. In simple terms, if the egg cell does not get fertilized with sperm that is when menstruation begins. The menstrual cycle lasts about 28 days, but it is different for every woman.

On the 14th day of the menstrual cycle, that is when the egg cell is released into the fallopian tube. This is the period when the female is most fertile.

Care of the Reproductive System

The vagina is self-cleansing organ. Cleanliness is especially important during the menstrual period to avoid infection. However, showering and washing the external area is essential.

This is an important habit for females to develop: Breast self-examination. Inspect both breasts for anything unusual. Inspections are done while laying on the bed or in front of the mirror. Look for:

  • Any discharge
  • Different shape of your breast
  • Lumps

If anything unusual is found, contact the doctor!
