Family Lesson Plan
STANDARD - 2.4
GRADE - K
GOAL - In this family lesson plan the students will learn how families differ for many reasons.
SWBAT
- understand that families are different sizes
- understand that bigger families need bigger houses
- match baby animals to their mother animals
LEARNING TASKS - I present this lesson plan on the poster board paper.
My first page displays family sizes. I will start by taking about different families that have different amount of children. Some have only a mother or a father - some have one child - some have two. As you have revealed all family sizes on the board of your presentation - test your students by asking how many family member there are on each picture.

Second page explains how family changes and grows. At first - parents had only one daughter. As time was going by - she was getting older and more mature. When she became older - she got married and had her own child. This example shows how one family can change and grow.

Third page of my lesson presents different family sizes and different sizes of the houses. Explain to your student that each family member has to have a window. So - if there are three family members and the house has three windows - it's a perfect house for them.
Pick one student to tell you which house is appropriate for which family. If he/she is right - let the student write the appropriate number underneath the right house.

Fourth page presents four family words. Have your students either trace these words or just write them on the poster paper.

Your students are going to love this page. This page explains the names of animal mothers and the names of animal babies. Give your students pictures of animal babies so they can color them and then match the babies to their appropriate mother. For example - if one of your students has a picture of a kitten - then he/she has to put it next to the cat. I use a glue stick to attach the picture to the board.

CONCLUSION How families could be different? How families grow? How families change? Name baby animals and their appropriate mother animals.
