Effects of Meditation

This video presents some amazing evidence about effects of meditation.

Video Source

I’ve been doing meditation in my Health classes for two years already and I noticed that it helps me with class discipline issues. Majority of my students enjoy this activity and some became persuaded after watching this video.

Meditation is an excellent exercise for students and other to practice to reduce anxiety and stress. It actually shrinks the part of the brain that deals with stress and grows compassion and self-awareness parts of the brain.

You may ask how to meditate? It’s very easy. It includes three steps:

  1. Sit comfortable
  2. Focus on your breath
  3. If mind wanders – return thinking about breathing

It just takes about 30 minutes a day to bring the results. Even if it’s less than 30 minutes, it’s still effective. Also, there is fascinating evidence that meditation decreases blood pressure, improve immune system and make person look nicer.

Scientists are taking advantage of new technologies to see exactly what goes on inside the brains of Buddhist monks and other so-called "Olympian" meditators — individuals who meditate intensively and regularly. The neuroscientists hypothesize that regular meditation actually alters the way the brain is wired, and that these changes could be at the heart of claims that meditation can improve health and well-being.

Meditation is also completely FREE! It requires no special equipment, and is not complicated to learn. It can be practiced anywhere, at any given moment, and it is not time consuming. Best of all, meditation has NO negative side effects. Bottom line, there is nothing but positive to be gained from it! With such a huge list of benefits, the question you should ask yourself is, “why am I not meditating yet?”

This is a phenomenal way to make your students more relaxed and more attentive in your class. It works for me!
