Human three body types

STANDARD - 2.6

GRADE - 11

GOAL - The students will learn three body types and tips to keep them healthy.

SWBAT

  • Say definition for each individual type
  • List factors that effect human's bodies
  • Name healthy tips for each type

LEARNING TASKS - I know it seems repetitive that I use DO NOW questions - but it works. So - ask your students "What are some examples of body types that people have?" You will surely get fat and skinny. That's ok! That's great.

Tell your students that now it's time to impress your friends and parents by saying FAT and SKINNY with proper health terms. Ok - here it goes!

The naturally big person with a round face, wide hips, big bones, slow metabolism and high number of fat cells - called endomorphs.

The endomorphs need to have a balanced diet. It should be complete with vegetables and fruits. To stay in healthy weight range - calorie intake needs to be reduced. Nevertheless - do not cut out meals completely. And of course - my favorite - perform physical activity with high duration.

The naturally muscular person with wide shoulders, small waist, athletic build, low body fat and fast metabolism - called mesomorphs.

This is the type of body that everybody would like to have. No matter what body type you have - we all must eat a well balanced diet. Cardiovascular exercise and weight training will be beneficial and will keep you in the best shape.

A thin person with a linear appearance, small muscles, extremely fast metabolism, low body fat, narrow hips, shoulders and waist - called ectomorphs.

People with this type of body must have well balanced and rich in nutrients diet. Also, it is important to exercise and start weight training program. High weights and low repetitions will be most beneficial to build the muscles.

Explain to your students that body types depend on many factors.

One of them is nutrition. Some people may have easy access to food and others not.

Second - physical activity. If you are exercising you will most likely burn more calories than you have eaten.

Another factor is maturation. No matter how old you are - you must have a good understanding of healthy nutrition and importance of physical activity. Because these factors will have an impact on your body type and appearance.

Sometimes you could live in the environment where you could be restrictive to exercise. For example - where you're living - there are no sidewalks for you to take a jog and you don't want to get hit by a car running on the street.

Over this factor you can't have control. It's heredity - genes that you get from your parents. However, if you will constantly exercise you can break the chain.

Last factor is your age.

At this time - distribute worksheets to your students. See if they understood your lesson and took good notes.

Assess them by reviewing the worksheet and answering any questions.

This lesson might be a little too short for forty five minutes or one hour class. My suggestion - use this lesson combined together with Karvonen Formula lesson plan or any other related lessons you would like.

Here is the worksheet.
