GOAL - The students will learn benefits of physical activity and ways to develop strength - endurance and flexibility.

SWBAT

  • Explain what is fitness
  • Describe physical - social- mental benefits of exercise
  • List easy ways to develop strength - endurance - flexibility

LEARNING TASKS - Begin your lesson with DO NOW question on the board. "What are some benefits of physical activity that you can think of?" Give students hints to think about physical, social and mental benefits of physical activity.

For this lesson you will be provided with a power point presentation.

Ask students what is fitness? Hear their responses and display your response on the board.

Fitness means being fit.

What does it mean to be fit?

  • - no matter how hard your job or your class is - you are still able to withstand all the stress put on you

  • - regular exercise will maintain your healthy weight which also will make you look slim and as a result you will feel good about yourself

Muscle strength means being physically strong. It will allow you to do any hard work that you want at any time. To develop or improve muscle strength - you need to pull or push against force. Example - lifting weights

Very important component of fitness is muscle endurance. It allows you to perform work for a long period of time without getting tired.To improve or develop muscle endurance you need to exercise several times a week for at least 30 minutes. Examples - aerobic exercise - running

The reason why we don't get injured during many sports events - is because we have flexibility. It allows us to move our joints through full range of motion.Stretching exercises will develop flexibility and will prevent injuries.Examples - yoga

Assess students' understanding about strength - endurance - flexibility - feel and look good.

What will lifting weights will improve? Muscle strength

What will swimming improve for your body? Muscle endurance

What will yoga improve for your body? Flexibility

If you will exercise on the regular basis, how will you feel and look? Feel energetic and look good
